Monmouthshire council in Wales have banned all ecig products in and outside the premises after welsh councillors voted on the ban, and voted surprisingly in favour of the proposal.

Monmouthshire councillors took there lead from Caerphilly County Borough Council who have also banned ecigs in and around there councils headquarters. The new rules on ecig was forwarded by councillor Tony Easson, member for Dewstow Wales, at a councillor meeting that happened within County Hall, Usk.

He said: “My concern is that in western countries e-cigarettes are being promoted as an alternative to smoking. This could develop into tobacco use”.

“Council property should be a place where e-cigarettes are prohibited from.”

The Welsh Government have already proposed a ban on all e-cigarettes and e-liquids consumed in any public places located in wales, which could include all work places, which could come into effect in Wales by 2016. Smoking regular cigarettes however will still be allowed in public places, just not indoor public spaces, so why is the council trying to ban eCigs in all public places, not just indoor? Second hand smoking is far worse than second hand vape.

Professor Mark Drakeford, health minister, expressed worries again that e-cigarettes could normalise smoking behaviour.

For a few this may be the case, but for hundreds and hundreds of people e-cigarettes are used not to normalise smoking, but to eradicate smoking cigarettes altogether. Great health improvements and money savings will always keep ex-smokers fighting for there right to vape.
